Firstly, I wish to share with you my story:

When I first started practicing yoga, I was honestly just looking for a way to exercise. I didn’t go into it with any big spiritual intention—I just wanted to move my body. But it happened at a time in my life when I was really disconnected from myself. I didn’t know how to rest in my own skin. I had never really noticed my thoughts or felt what was happening inside me.
Yoga opened a door I didn’t even know I needed.
It was the first time I experienced what it felt like to slow down, to breathe, to actually be with myself. It became a huge turning point of self-discovery I didn't see coming.
About seven years into teaching yoga, I discovered somatics. And that changed everything again. Yoga had taught me how to witness myself… but somatics taught me how to feel myself on a completely different level. It wasn’t just about observing anymore. It was about dropping into this deeper place—this inner ground that I didn’t know was possible.
Through somatic work, I started to understand my patterns, not just mentally but physically and energetically. I could sense the places where I was holding, bracing, or pushing through things. And I could feel what happened when I softened, slowed down, and let my system guide the way. It was like meeting myself for the first time—beyond the habits, beyond the striving.
That’s why weaving these pieces together—yoga therapy principles, somatic awareness, and nervous system understanding—became so important to me. Each one had supported me at a different moment in my own journey, and together they created something that felt whole, honest, and deeply supportive.
BodyWise Somatic Training grew out of that.
It is a way of sharing the kind of practice I needed back then—something gentle, soothing, and real. Something that helps people feel at home in themselves, whether they're learning to teach others or learning to care for their own nervous system with more compassion.

WHAT IS SOMATICS?
Somatics is a body-centered field of movement education and awareness that emerged in the mid–20th century through the work of pioneers such as Thomas Hanna, Moshe Feldenkrais, and others who explored movement as a way to restore ease, coordination, and self-regulation.
The word “soma” means “the living body from within.” Unlike exercise or posture-focused movement, somatics brings awareness to how the nervous system organizes and experiences the body in real time.
Originally developed to support people in recovering from chronic muscular tension (known as Sensory Motor Amnesia or SMA), somatic education works by reawakening neural pathways that may have gone offline due to stress, trauma, or habitual holding patterns. Through slow, mindful movement and sensory awareness, the nervous system learns to release unnecessary tension, restore fluidity, and return to its natural state of balance.
Somatic practices are now widely recognized for their role in:
-
Nervous system regulation — shifting from survival states to safety and ease.
-
Pain reduction and mobility restoration — by improving neuromuscular communication.
-
Embodiment and self-awareness — helping individuals feel at home in their bodies again.
This is not about performance — it’s about reclaiming agency over your own body.
WHY SOMATICS MATTERS FOR TEACHERS AND PRACTITIONERS
For anyone wanting to teach yoga, movement, or any body-based modality, somatic awareness is a game changer.
When we teach only from technique, the practice can become mechanical or external. But when we teach from a somatic foundation, we are teaching from a living, felt understanding of the body — not just shapes and cues, but a language of sensation, regulation, and connection.
Somatics supports teachers and practitioners to:
-
Guide others regulate their own nervous system before guiding others — holding space from grounded presence.
-
Understand how movement influences states of safety and resilience in the body.
-
Read and respond to the body’s feedback rather than imposing rigid sequences.
-
Create trauma-sensitive, accessible spaces that meet students where they are.
-
Teach from embodiment — so presence becomes the most powerful part of the class.

Whether you teach yoga, dance, pilates, bodywork, or therapy-based movement, somatics gives you the tools to guide others with more clarity, sensitivity, and impact.

Frequent Asked Questions:
Do I receive a certificate when I complete BodyWise Somatic Training?
Yes. Upon completing the full training, you will receive an official BodyWise Somatic Training Certificate. This acknowledges your understanding of somatic principles, movement patterns, nervous system awareness, and your ability to apply these in your personal practice or professional work.

How is this different from a traditional Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)?
Most yoga teacher trainings focus on postures—how to shape the body into specific asanas, alignment cues, and sequencing.
BodyWise is different.
Instead of teaching you to fit bodies into shapes, we explore:
-
Movement patterns, habits, and holding tendencies
-
How the nervous system influences breath, posture, and mobility
-
How to sense, feel, and respond rather than perform
-
How movement emerges from function, not form
If you’re already a yoga teacher, this training helps you guide your students from body literacy and interoception, not external ideals. Your students learn to inhabit their bodies in ways that are empowering, individualized, and sustainable—not performative.

Do I need to be a yoga teacher or have prior experience?
Not at all. BodyWise is designed for anyone curious about somatics, embodiment, or nervous-system–based movement.
Yoga teachers, yoga therapists, bodyworkers, dancers, and wellness practitioners often join—but so do people who simply want to understand their bodies more deeply.

Can I use what I learn with clients or students?
Yes—everything you learn can be integrated into private sessions, group classes, or your existing modality. You’ll gain somatic tools that complement yoga, Pilates, coaching, therapy, massage, or any movement-based profession.

Can I repeat the training in the future?
Yes—many people repeat modules and deepen their understanding. You’re welcome to revisit the material anytime the training is offered.
